March 1 (v3.7.7) updates - Login and beta features

The FirstVoices development team has been working hard on the new release, which sees the launch of new features, as well as solutions to bugs and glitches on the site. All of these updates have been prompted by the hard-working Language Teams and community members, whose valuable feedback, ideas and suggestions have been crucial in making FirstVoices a better platform.

If you have questions about any of the updates listed below, or have ideas for ways to improve FirstVoices, please contact us at: hello@firstvoices.com

Updated login page

We’ve updated the look of the FirstVoices login form! Don’t worry – it’s still us, and it does everything that the previous form did. We’ve also added a separate login page (with a different look) for the new FirstVoices beta site.

After you login, you will be taken to the “Your Languages” page where you can choose the site you wish to work on.

Beta features for the new FirstVoices

The majority of the FirstVoices team’s work is focused on features for the new FirstVoices site, still in beta.

If you are interested in trying out the beta site, contact hello@firstvoices.com!

Homepage management + dashboard improvements

You can now update your site’s logo and banner from the new FirstVoices! If you’d like to try it out, click here to read more about requirements for logos and banners on the new site.

Keep in mind: This will update the logo and banner for your site on the old FirstVoices as well.

We’ve also made some small usability updates in the Dashboard:

  • There is now a single button for choosing between an image or video banner

  • Widgets on your homepage are now rearranged with drag-and-drop

  • Added a link in the dashboard sidebar to your old FirstVoices site for editing words, phrases, etc

Media upload

Tired of returning to the old FirstVoices to upload images for your beta homepage? We’ve just added a new media uploader to the beta site! Now, instead of only being able to browse existing media in your library, you will also be able to upload new files.

When adding a media file, you can switch between your media library and the new uploader.

  • Supports drag-and-drop from your computer

  • Supports upload for multiple files in bulk (in areas where multiple files can be selected, like editing words)

  • On upload, you can edit file properties like the title or acknowledgements/source

  • On upload, you can crop/resize your images

Choose visibility of pages & widgets

We want to support teams in making their sites as customizable as possible. To support this, you can now change the visibility of pages and Widgets on your site, so that they can be made private to your site members or language team even if your site is public.

When editing pages, you can now change who can see the page or specific Widgets. Choose between your team, your site members, or anyone (public) – just like with words and phrases.

How could you use this feature?

  • Add a special members-only greeting to your homepage

  • Add a page with important links or workflow information just for your language team

Let us know about your ideas – email hello@firstvoices.com!

New Widget type: Quotes

We have added a new Widget option for teams to add to their homepages or custom pages. It can be used to feature three quotations that appear in speech bubbles.

You can use this Widget on any page to highlight important short quotes, testimonials, or teachings.

Bug fixes

  • The Kids Area now displays content that has been marked as “Appropriate for kids”

  • Songs and stories can have the text overlay hidden again if you would like to display only the picture

  • Alphabets which link to private/deleted words will load successfully without the private/deleted item

  • Updates to the FPCC footer information + images

  • Added the FirstVoices navigation bar to error pages

  • Visual improvements to the dictionary mode, page/widget edit forms, and media library

  • Visual and navigation bar improvements for mobile view
