Information on FirstVoices Language Apps
Introduction

The app includes Words, Phrases, Songs, Stories and Word of the Day. When you first open the app the word of the day will pop up. You will get a different word of the day each day based on the public words available on the language site.
You can share this content on your socials by pressing the share icon.
Click the “< Back” to bring you to the dictionary.
The content can be accessed offline as well. Also, everytime you are in wifi zone you will have a choice to upload any new content that has been added to the language site directly to your app. The great news with this feature is when the community uploads new words/phrases/songs/stories it automatically updates and will be available immediately for the apps.
There are 4 icons on the bottom of your device screen Search Dictionary, Learn, Bookmarks, and List (also known as a hamburger list because it resembles a hamburger).
Dictionary Search Section
In the images below there are four headings: DICTIONARY, ALPHABET, CATEGORIES, and RANDOM
Random is a list of random words/phrases from your dictionary. If you click the refresh button it will reorder/refresh the list.
Learn Section
Learn contains Stories, Songs, and Flashcards. Flashcards can be created using words, phrases, categories, and with your saved bookmarks.
Bookmarks
“Bookmarks” a place to save words/phrases, you can also remove words/phrases after you have learned them (see images below). The “Hamburger List” (icon resembles a hamburger “three lines”) which expands the list.
Expand List Section
When you press the three lines icon, the “Humbuger List”, it expands and shows “settings” the gear icon and the information icon that displays (see image below)

Private Sites and the App
Private Sites- If you are considering having an App
At this time we can not create an app for private sites. However, if you are wanting an app and your site is private there are some things that can be done to make some content private and some content public. We are only able to create an app for public sites. Your site can be public and contain members only content. Your community can decide to keep some content members only and some content public. This would allow you to have an app with content your community chooses to make public while keeping some content members only. The members only content would only be available on through the website and your learners would need to login to view.
Members Only Content
For instance you can set words, phrases, songs, stories, and widgets visibility to “team only”, “members only”, and “public”. You can read more here https://firstvoices.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FIR1/pages/1704938/Who+can+see+your+language+entries#Understand-entry-visibility
If your community would like to keep all songs or all stories private you are able to change the visibility. If you have a large amount of songs or stories you would like changed you can let us know and we can do a bulk visibility change.
We can change your private site to public if you would like an app. Let us know how we can help or if you have any questions. Just email us at hello@firstvoices.com
Also, anytime you change the visibility it will change on the app as well. So, if your community decides to make a word, phrase, song or story public or members only it also change on the app. The app instantly updates when it is connected to wifi.
