How do I register as a new user?
Why register?
Most FirstVoices content is publicly available to everyone without registration, at the discretion of communities. However, signing up with a FirstVoices account allows us to present you with content that is personalized to you.
If you register as a community member of a specific language site, and the language administrator accepts your request, you will be able to see content that is Members-only for that specific language site.
How to register for an account
Go to the FirstVoices homepage and click on "Sign In / Register".
Click on the link that says "Sign up".
Fill out the account registration page with the information you would like to share. You will need to enter your email address to complete registration.
When you have filled out all of the required fields, click "Sign up".
Check your email. You will be emailed a link to set your password. This should be done as soon as possible as the link will expire.
Set your password!
If you don't receive an email within a few minutes please check your junk folder. Your registration is not complete until you have set your password AND logged in.
Request membership to a language site
Register for public sites
Most FirstVoices language sites are public. However, some may contain content that is privately marked for only community members to view. If you are a member of the community, you can request to join the site to view its private content.
Login to your FirstVoices account.
Go to the Explore Languages page and click on the public site you wish to join.
From the main language site homepage, click the button at the top that says “Join”.
Fill out the Join Request form and submit it.
On your Join request form, you will be asked some details about why you wish to join the site. You can submit a message to the community Language Administrator to provide more context for your request.
After completing these steps, you’ll have to wait for the community Language Administrator to approve your request before you will be able to view Members-Only content.
Register for private sites
Some of the language sites on FirstVoices are marked as private. Their entire site can only be accessed by approved FirstVoices members. After you have registered as a FirstVoices user and logged in, you can request to join these sites by following these steps:
Log in to your FirstVoices account.
Go to the Explore Languages page and click on the private site you wish to join.
In the popup, click “request to join” to confirm that you are a member of the community or team.
Fill out the Join Request form and submit it.
On your Join Request form, you will be asked some details about why you wish to join the site. You can submit a message to the community Language Administrator to provide more context for your request.
After completing these steps, you’ll have to wait for the community Language Administrator to approve your request before you will be able to view the Members-Only site or its content.
You can request to join any private site, but there are some reasons why your registration may not be approved, or why you may end up waiting a long time for approval. Some sites are under active construction and the Language Team may not wish to add new members until it is ready. Other sites have no active Language Team, so there may not be anyone to approve the request.
